Executive Director

 The Bartholomew County Historical Society (BCHS) is searching for an Executive Director.

As the top manager, the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the entire operations of the corporation and reports directly to the chairman and board of directors. It is the ED's responsibility to implement board decisions and initiatives and to maintain the smooth operation of the firm, with staff and volunteers.

 Responsible for the corporation's operations, the ED looks after issues related to fund raising, marketing, programming and personnel.  The ED is responsible for analyzing and reviewing financial data, reporting financial performance, preparing budgets and monitoring expenditures and costs. The ED is required to present this information to the board of directors at regular intervals.    Main responsibilities include developing and implementing high-level strategies, making major organizational decisions, managing the overall operations and resources of a company, and acting as the main point of communication between the board of directors and the community.

 The scope of responsibility includes but is not limited to fund development, community relations, strategic planning, marketing oversight as well as leadership interaction in the management of operations, administration and finance.

 Education and Experience:


BCHS’s Executive Director should have a keen interest in History, the arts, cultural/heritage tourism and community development. BCHS looks for a candidate that has at least 3-5 years senior management experience with increasing levels of responsibility and direct stewardship of Boards of Directors.  It is expected that s/he will have career experience at a senior management level of a cultural organization.

 Bachelor's degree required with an advanced degree in business or arts administration preferred. Salary commensurate with experience.  A potential for housing may be part of the package.

 The Bartholomew County Historical Society (BCHS) will make history come alive for community members, educators, scholars, genealogists and visitors of all ages through exhibits, programs and a research library detailing the County’s rich agricultural, civic, architectural / cultural and business / industrial heritage. In collaboration with other organizations, BCHS will strive to make the Bartholomew County community a magnet for cultural tourism.

 MISSION:

 The mission of the Bartholomew County Historical Society (BCHS) is to collect and preserve Bartholomew County artifacts, photographs and documents. Through interpretive programs and displays, BCHS teaches the heritage of this region to enrich both present and future generations. Our goal is that we may know who we are today based on where we came from yesterday.
